About the NDIS
The NDIS offers funding to eligible individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve more quality time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, employment opportunities, or volunteering in their community, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.
NDIS Code of Conduct
As an NDIS participant, you have the right to feel safe and receive high-quality services from the providers and workers you choose to support you.
The NDIS Commission is dedicated to upholding the rights of people with disabilities. This includes ensuring dignity, respect, and freedom from abuse, exploitation, and violence. This commitment aligns with Australia’s adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The NDIS Code of Conduct helps providers and workers respect and uphold your right to safe and quality supports and services. There is also an easy read guide to the NDIS Code of Conduct (also available as a printable download).
Under the NDIS Code of Conduct, providers and workers must:
act with respect for individual rights to freedom of expression, self-determination, and decision-making in accordance with relevant laws and conventions
respect the privacy of people with disability
provide supports and services in a safe and competent manner with care and skill
act with integrity, honesty, and transparency
promptly take steps to raise and act on concerns about matters that might have an impact on the quality and safety of supports provided to people with disability
take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse
take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual misconduct.
The NDIS Code of Conduct applies to:
registered NDIS providers
unregistered NDIS providers
NDIA community partners - LAC and ECEI providers
providers delivering information, linkages, and capacity building activities
providers delivering Commonwealth Continuity of Support Programme services for people over the age of 65.
How do I make a complaint?
If you have a disability and are not happy with the NDIS services you receive, you have the right to make a complaint. Talking about your concerns is important because it helps improve the quality of services not just for you, but for others too.
If you have concerns, try to speak with your provider first. You may seek help from other people too, like family, friends, or an advocate.
If you are unable to resolve your issues, you can make a complaint to the NDIS Commission by:
Phoning: 1800 035 544 (free call from landlines) or TTY 133 677. Interpreters can be arranged.
National Relay Service and ask for 1800 035 544.
Completing a complaint contact form.
